Well that was rather fun.

It won't change anything; Theresa May is determined to rule as autocratically as she can, and the truth of the matter is that in order to unite her party she has embraced the dictats of the hard right, which means Brexit. Brexit means turning away from the EU, but we can't afford to offend all our big friends so we must needs embrace Trump, whatever his behaviour. It'll be Putin next. Not exactly 'Taking Back Control.'

Still, the debate itself was excellent, and combined with the protests outside, are a warning about the potential embarrassments. One solution was posited which was clever and fair. The state visit wouldn't have to be straight away: 2020 is the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrim Fathers, so having him visit then might be appropriate. I like that: the compliment then goes beyond Trump and becomes about his people, and it gives him time to either achieve stuff/be impeached/get us all blown up.
