I would actually go two stages further on the parenting thing.

(1) The things that fuck up children are numberless, and often so trivial that no parent could account for them.
(2) The things that we endured as children make us who we are just as much as the things we enjoyed. And the good things in us cannot all be laid at the door of the good stuff. I dread the results of the cottonwool generation for this reason.
