Covid calculations

Yesterday certainly had its difficult moments; my chest started to really ache, so I checked the oxymeter thing, and that all looked fine. None the less, it was definitely an 'uh-oh' moment, because I really did feel quite ill. I lay out in front of the fire like an old hound and slept a while. My mother is sending me stern messages about royal jelly, propolis and pollen.

'I intend to live for another 30 years,' she said, 'and you are going to be here for all that. I cannot bear anything else. Do as I tell you.'

Quite apart from ransacking apiaries ('but Mum, what will the bees eat?') she recommends garlic, because it is basically impossible to be of Hispanic heritage without knowing this to be the Holy Grail of all foods, conceding honourable mentions for peppers, onions, lemons and ginger. Then she's onto the necessity for antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, anti-histamines, and possible need for a nebuliser. She learned this from a doctor she saw on Youtube. My father's traditions would be far simpler; when in doubt, burn it out with whisky. So in honour of Scotland I tried that too. Don't know if it worked, but I certainly felt better at the time.

Today? Sleeping in still, no temperature, no change in blood oxygen levels, no cough, still not sure about my chest. Thing is, the pain there could be caused by problems other than Covid that I can't get treated because I can't reach the local GP because of Covid. And anyway it isn't really pain, more discomfort.

We are supposed to be going on holiday to Whitby soon. Effectively I have been self-isolating already and will be non-dangerous by the time we go, if Lockdown isn't introduced. I'll check with the others, see if I can winkle their real feelings out from under friendship and politeness. If they feel uncertain then I won't go, and of course if I have any doubts I won't go. R says this would suck and it would, but there's no point everyone else losing the holiday.

Whom could I have infected/be infected by? Most of my interactions have been online. Our last physical visitor was just about a month ago. There was the taxi driver when I took the cat to the vets, but we both wore a mask, standing outside the surgery everyone wore a mask and stayed far from each other, apart from that woman's blessed dog. That was 9 days ago.

Likewise on walks, while people are not wearing masks, they are staying 2 metres apart. That leaves parcel delivery and the milkman.

I just don't see it myself.
