Fracking's a big issue in New York State, too. Not here but farther west, around Ithaca and what's called the Southern Tier.
Fracking is an incredibly expensive operation, so it doesn't make economic sense unless the price of a barrel of oil hits a certain level—which it did a few years back but hasn't yet right now–despite the shenanigans with the Russian oil supply.
