I'm not sure about the wife thing. The copy that fell on the floor was a 1960s reprint. I get confused because the first part talks about Enkidu just living among beasts, but later in the narrative, with his cursing of Shamhat, he mentions a wife and then there's a weird bit where he mentions a wife with seven children being left through Shamhat's seduction. But this last part might a mistranslation of his post curse - and damn giggle worthy! - blessing on her, along the lines of 'may you be so irresistible that even a confirmed family man with great responsibilities will desert his wife and kids for you.'
