Dummies

I got out of the habit of updating lj because of work, and the discipline it gave me is all gone.Bit of a bummer now I need it. My projects continue at a snail's pace because I can barely do anything; I am meant to be writing horror, London in tone, wider in scope, and not very much is happening in my head at all. So I must start again, and enjoy myself just writing everyday rubbish.

I need two male mannequins. [profile] larians suits of armour lie crumpled up in the garage which is already overstuffed with my brother's junk and various boxes we still haven't unpacked. Before this stuff falls to bits, I need to put it somewhere; fortunately a deep red drawing room lends itself to a little gothic overkill, but arming stands are impossible to find, so mannequins will do, must have legs, no heads needed. I may well be shipping some in from China at this rate, cos they're strangely expensive here...

Actually, they're just strange. All mannequins are strange, sports mannequins are very strange, and golfing mannequins are the strangest of them all.

Child mannequins are outright nasty, though I have an image in my head of a school teacher coming into a classroom, finding it full of child mannequins rather than yeractual kids and bursting out in grateful prayer to the almighty. Got to be a story in that somewhere.

Dressmakers' dummies are about £60 and up, and make very good armour stands, AND you can make clothes with them :) Just ask Mabel, guardian of the spare bedroom.

I was considering them, but what about armour leg bits?

Umbrella stands. Yes.

Hmmm, clearly no question of asking a gentleman which side he dresses any more! ?

I reckon it should be dead easy to make an armour stand with some 2x2 from B&Q. Fraction of the cost and, if you build it right, portable to events.

You'll be suggesting an elephants foot next x

As you can see, the boys swing straight down the middle.

See, that is so clearly the thought of someone who is much better at this kind of thing than they realise or let on!

Easy for you perhaps, with your fine brain and clever hands. I on the other hand, regard myself as having achieved much if I can let go of the front door without getting my hand trapped in the letter box - possibly best to keep me away from hammer and nails:-D
