Always Remember This

Chums of this journal will mostly be aware that I have a family member who suffers from serious mental illness, and has done so for well over 30 years. Sometimes it's funny, mostly it's tragic and a bit exasperating. I just received a letter from her, and because I am dreadful for losing things, especially important things, I am copying here words from her letter that I never want to forget. Just in case.

'I am 71 years of age...Debbie, at this age we are fully aware of everything, of the chances lost, or how life should have been, my wish for you is that you do not leave to pass anything that can be good for your interests, or nice, or good for you, chances rarely present themselves twice, be happy and look after yourself.'

Thank you Mum. I do love you X

There isn't a word that describes that entirely. It's lovely, and very touching. Almost welled up a bit myself xx

I read it to myself a coupld of times. I could hear her voice in my head, very regal and soft with a strong spanish accent.

She has had one hell of a life. If I ever meet her 'guide'/angel/whatever, I may well punch them in the face.

Is it our guides/angels/whoevers that lead us to these events or do they merely help us through them? I'm laughing at your want to punch your mums. Perhaps while you're in the mood for punching them could you whack mine too :-).

The words she's given you are wonderful, cherish them! And her. She must be one strong lady to have been through so much xx

Heh! I don't know if she is strong or just very stubborn! I would love to know how these beings - if they exist in the guise that various traditions would have us follow - have helped her. Cos I don't believe it. We all have our areas of darkness I guess. This is one of mine.

Argh! Cut the bottom off my reply! Just wanted to add, thanks for your cheering words - they give me heart x

I really don't know what my take on it is. I think I need to believe they help in some way to avoid total despair. As you probably know, for me, that would be disasterous. But I do know what you mean, sometimes it seems they are of no help and have only lead to pain and distress. Perhaps a whack might sort them out!

In darkness look for stars, they're there somewhere :-)

As for words, they are just that, words. It's the sentiments behind them that speak volumes xx

hmmm

Yuck, how sickeningly optimistic of me and terribly cheesey! Damn the stars in darkness, scream and shout and vent that rage, I find it works much better :-)
