Of marriage, gay and otherwise
Woke up this morning after vivid dream of being pregnant. Scared myself to death. Great night relaxing at Bertoli's over steak in brandy, accompanied by beer (don't worry, diet, we shall meet again). Am about to gabble pointlessly to calm myself down, before hitting the day.
Read a couple of LJ posts, gorgeous and inspiring in their support for gay marriage. I support gay marriage as much as I support any marriage, but that's not saying much. I really view matrimony as an unnecessary evil for any and all.
Partnerships entail joy, but also work.
Marriage seems to give the message that one can stop trying now; one has arrived. Enjoy the perfect stasis cos from here it's down hill. Have some champagne. Avababy. Do the ironing. Brrr!
I don't think the dangers grow greater or lesser according to gender. My bro wants to get married to his current love (aka Pinhead) as soon as gay marriages are legal in this country. He spits blood at the idea of some kitch Las Vegas style 'chapel' with pink neon love hearts splurged all over it. He wants the whole huge Edwardian/Victorian manor deal, and so far his preferred colour scheme is black and bottle green. I worry that we are all going to look like extras from Little Dorrit. What's wrong with burgundy?
Sorry, got side-tracked there...I absolutely adore weddings and handfastings (and conduct quite a few in hope and trust) but personally I deeply mistrust matrimony whoever the participants. I don't like chains and bonds. I have doubts about Littlebro's determination to tie the knot with Pinhead, in much the same way as I would if Bro voiced an ambition to marry Ivana Trump. Pinhead's genital arrangment is irrelevent. It's the voices in his head that worry me.
