Foot bad, hip stiff, q new assessment from the physio, who shakes his head mournfully.

'You don't have arthritis,' he says, 'but I think you have tendonitis in your knee as well as your heel. You must go to a podiatrist and work out which shoes to wear. You really shouldn't be wearing these boots. They're awful for your feet.'

Time to suppress the eye roll. I'm wearing these boots because they fit the spec recommended to me by some other consultant/nurse/GP way back in the history of foot-fixing. They said these boots were soft enough and provided enough heel to take pressure off the tendon.

'Yes,' continues the advice, 'I can see they take that pressure off, but they do it by putting pressure on the knee and the hip instead. You need to find a good podiatrist and discuss shoes that are good for your high instep. How can you practice putting your heel on the floor before your toe if you are wearing these?'

Pff. Well, I don't know. The good news is that without the TENS machine, which had very little effect last time, he made the foot feel a whole lot better with some kind of deep massage into the ankle and heel. I feel the benefit of it today. As to issues with my knee, I'm a great believer in not mending what isn't broken. I had an accident with one of my knee caps back in my early 20s, the kind of accident that makes the doc forbid ski-ing and frown at riding. It's sorted itself out with little/no trouble since, but I respect that knees are the body's curmudgeons and never send them east if they're aiming west.

On to the conversation with Mum, who has recently caught up with a relative suffering severe Anorexia. The fact that this person has reached their late 40s is a testament to their inner strength, and the extraordinary support of love, care, and patience surrounding them. Perhaps because my mother has not seen the disorder at its most acute she was very shocked. But even then there was something morbidly comical about the way Mum sequed from 'I have told her she must eat more to become the lovely girl she once was' to 'have you tried detoxifying yourself with green juices? They may help your foot and also help you lose weight. Not that you need to lose weight for me, I love you whether you are a little - well I love you anyway. But just in case. Green juices. If I had electricity in the flat, I would have a juicer and drink green juice every day. As it is, I take chlorella and alfalfa, very good for you.' When questioned about why there is no electricity in the flat, the reply is 'there is something wrong with the installation.* And anyway, electricity generates radiation, which is why we should stay away from fridges. Electric toothbrushes, hair dryers, all these generate radiation,' moment's pause for breath and to pointedly not mention the solar panels on my roof. 'I will have as little radiation as possible around me, because I intend to live until 120 if I can. Meanwhile, look at Frank Suarez' videos.'

I am dizzy from so much advice. So to recuperate my brain, I'm looking at my crabapple tree in the sunshine. Whatever else is going on, it's beautiful and makes me happy. Everything else can wait.

*No there isn't or wasn't till she went ferreting behind the walls. God knows what she's done to the wiring.

You must go to a podiatrist

I'm trying to think of a way to say I told you so! that doesn't come off as though I'm saying I told you so.. I can't! Am I obnoxious or what? 😀

Green juice tastes vile. But it is very healthy.
