Is your surgeon your primary healthcare provider for that?
It's been my experience that surgeons tend to pooh-pooh the medical.
If you have been prescribed oral medications that your body is not absorbing, I would tend to see that as an issue. Is your GP the gatekeeper for your medical issues? If so, I would at least bring that up. It could well be a non-issue. But if you're unable to absorb the medications, you're not receiving treatment.
