Team Player
Huh. Well, the draft has wended its way off to all those who need to see it. I am expecting approximately 2 people to actually read the thing, because it's a monster at nearly 20,000 words. There's more of and to this process but my hands are now off the wheel and someone else must make all the decisions. I will help of course, but in the main I am thoroughly done.
R and I were discussing whether or not I am a team player.
'You are,' he says, 'but when it's your speciality, you expect everyone else to get out of the way and leave you to it.' That's true and not true together. If I am working, I expect Other to bring a)something we lack and b)something we need. If those criteria aren't fulfilled, what are they doing? The situation entirely reverses if someone else starts the work and I come in later, but if I carry the process then this is how we roll especially when a deadline looms. The good news is, I'm not precious*. The bad news is, I'm not patient.
Chum and main co-worker on this project leaves me far behind in terms of work ethic, focus, facts, clear terminology, appropriate format. I'm very proud of us, and slightly in awe of her. I want to take her out for a coffee to talk about something that isn't this, however we are a pair of obsessives so I would be surprised if it stayed out of our conversation for more than five minutes.
When R and I downed tools this weekend, we were done and we both knew it. We went to Beecraigs for a wander and it did us good, but when we came back we both knew how unfit we are.
I can walk and keep walking, walking. But when I stop, I creak and groan like an old tree.
*Mostly not precious 😉
