Goat cheese cocktails and a pub ghost

Prior to dinner we popped into a cocktail bar just across the road from Purslane. It was dark, deep-lit, very nook-ish, and the cocktail menu was fabulous, especially the Loire Valley described here: http://www.lastwordsaloon.com/downloads/LWS_cocktails_web.pdf
It tasted like some kind of liquid goats cheese salad, my first ever truly savoury cocktail.

And the night rolled on and we ate and drank and talked , came home, ate and drank and talked, went out for Sunday lunch, ate and drank and talked...

Not much better than being in great company is there?

Sunday roast in a local restaurant bar, the place itself is OK and the roasts are formidable, but I do have a problem with it. The toilets are upstairs and every time I use them, I am a little scared. Only a little, mind you, but it has this sense of stillness to it, a feeling I can't explain. I always panic and dash out only to go through one of the wrong doors down to the fire escape.

I told the others about it, and they encouraged me to ask our waitress. I asked if there was any tell of the pub being haunted, and she replied that she was new and had no idea, and why did I ask?

'Curiosity,' I said, and left it at that.

A few minutes later she came back to our table.

'I asked the others,' she said. 'They say upstairs in the mens toilets, when they're closing up, they sometimes hear footsteps and taps and hand dryers turn on by themselves.'

We thanked her for the info, friend looking at me significantly.

'You didn't tell her it was upstairs,' she said.

The ladies' toilets are pretty much alongside the gents and the corridor between them is one of the worst bits. Later we needed to visit again so chum and I went together. Friend played the Addams Family theme tune loudly on her iphone while we used the facilities, roaring and laughing to the music to chase away the peculiar silence of the place. A door opened somewhere. There was a presence!

It was the waitress washing her hands.

And you know when someone makes up their minds about you with one look.
