Queen Bee

She was huge, a bumblebee queen. She had got in and couldn't/wouldn't get out, bashing her royal noggin repeatedly against one of the French windows while the other was open and provided plenty of room for escape. I opened the very door she was parked on so doggedly and then she flew away. Later I heard the same unmistakeable buzzing from the kitchen. There she was again, this time on one of the kitchen windows trying to get out. I'm sure it was the same bee, she had the same expression* the same determination to headbutt her way to victory. I opened the window again and off she flew. This time I checked the whole room to see if there was something sweet attracting her attention, sugar left on a counter, overripe fruit or something.
Nothing there.

She just came for a visit and cheered me up. In a few days, my garden will have lots of blossom for her. Last year I saw an alarmingly small number of bees in this garden, if we ever get a place with enough room I might try to keep a hive. Peeps have encouraged me to get one here but there's a worry about children and anaphylactic disasters.

Still. Maybe never, maybe we shall see.
