Cats, bats, and knackered
Apr. 11th, 2005 12:07 pmWell, that was lovely.
Most of the weekend was spent enjoying the hospitality of
scary_lady and
ellistar, and the creative talents of
larians. We talked, ate wonderful tuscan beef followed by low fat jelly in cream (I am such a fan of the Atkins diet, especially when my friends are on it!) and played AD&D3.5. I had a fab time.
larians' world is vibrant and amazing, the adventure was great fun, and the characters are just a total hoot. We are sailing west, out into piratical seas and unknown lands! Arrr!
Sunday evening was spent in the excellent company of
bad_moon_rising with fine conversation, beer and chinese take-out. The night would have been wonderfully chilled, had it not been for the kitties.
We don't encourage them to go out the front because despite the pleasant width of the green verge, cars are not so very far away and though it's by no means a busy road, accidents happen. Somehow the kitties got out last night. Surya was beguiled by a couple of bats and followed them away into the dark. I found her later, trying to leap at them from the top of a wall. Of Ralik we knew nothing until we heard this horrible banshee caterwauling under the window, clearly announcing the onset of catty punch-up; his first fight.
larians raced out and pulled them apart, gaining a dramatic looking scratch. The big ginger and white cat chased Ralik towards the road, and then Ralik, for no reason I understand, turned round and pursued his foe round the corner with a ferocity quite out of keeping with his size. So much for the vet's reassurance that neutering him would diminish his aggression and keep him out of fights he couldn't win. The little nimrod is wandering around with delusions of pantherhood this morning, and has successfully hunted my feet, the shower curtain and several plugs.
NB's for myself today:
1) Bats! First I have ever seen around here! Funky!
2) Cats. What are they for?
3) Vets. What are they like?

3) Okay really. They have things hanging round their necks that you can play with and shelves that you can shin up when no-one's paying enough attention. It's a break from the dullness of everyday sleeping, although the journey in the big box there and back is a very very scary.
