If I should wake before I die

Blame it all on buying a paid account.I am so enjoying this, but it won't do, you know; I have created my first backdrop to the page and, redolent in all its beauty (look how well it goes with 'If I should die before I wake') it renders the whole thing almost entirely illegible plus the layout doesn't support my links and I want those little suckers right there. Jean Delville's Orpheus is the backdrop. It feels so right, it goes so well with my dreams and my occasional innocent interest in severed heads. But no-one will guess at the feeling because no-one can read it, because a huge blue bard's bonce fills the page. Besides, the journal is called, 'Cobblers; a tale of fried footwear.' Let's face it, the mood needs a lot of work.

I tried this layout on one of my other journals (and on one of my comms), but there's not much you can do with it unless you want to get serious about advanced customisations (and I haven't seen any with this layout, so I don't know how they would look).

It's easier to read than some LJs I've seen, but maybe you should try this bg in 'Boxer'. Or you could have it as a banner in Flexisquares.

Yay! for paid accounts though. :D

*searches for icon that won't clash*

I may well try the banner idea, though I'm clueless on how to make them. I love this layout - at its default it clashes with no one else's icons, is legible, and suits the novelista in my head - but you are right, it seems very limited, and the drawbacks of the picture are obvious. Let's face it, I have no idea what I want!

Actually, it's easier to read than some others I've seen
And very very pretty

*hugs*

*smiles* Thank you! It is more elegant but less dreamy if I drop the background. Decisions, decisions!

Definitely very pretty and just about legible. It's your LJ so it should look how you want it to!

It's not easy, because all my favourite icons clash with it!

[profile] larians describes it well as 'not fit for purpose.'

Oooh, now I never considered doing this ... looks very pretty (though personally I'd make the background image fixed) mine being just a series of bland beiges. Hmm, I sense a project for next week!

The trouble with Orpheus is that any icon clashes. The beauty of the picture means that anything else jars and looks busy. However, I love it, for all its flaws. Right now, my lj page looks totally different in a way that's funky, but also allows my links. It's like me in some ways, but not as like me as the Orpheus one. I'm confused!

I think my answer is going to be to change the page every few days according to my mood. Orpheus for when I am feeling dreamy, something like this for ordinary days.
