On the September 12 broadcast of his BreakPoint radio program, former Nixon special counsel-turned-Christian radio commentator Charles Colson speculated that God allowed Hurricane Katrina as a reminder to the United States of the importance of winning the "war on terror":

Colson: [O]ne lesson I learned from Katrina is that we had better win the war on terror and resolve to prevent another 9-11. Katrina exposed how easy it would be to take a city out.

Dump a sea on it mate. Works every time.

Chuck Colson can always be relied upon to come out with something particularly inane. He's second only to Pat Robertson in that respect. I prefer the conspiracy theorist/aka mad scientist view of Katrina.

My favourite Katrina conspiracy is the one where some Idaho weatherman is convinced the hurricane was engineered by the Yakuza in retaliation for Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

They always advise us to write about real life; would they believe it if we did?
