We get milk delivered to our door, glass bottles, nostalgia, helping local business etc. But something strange has been happening to our deliveries; they're turning up at random times. We were supposed to get ours this morning but that was not to be, no.

Instead, about fifteen minutes before midnight yesterday I saw a man get out of a van and come up to my front door. He footled around and I wondered if his was one of the world's least convenient Amazon deliveries, and if so, why he didn't knock or ring the bell. So I opened the door and stared at him. 'What are you doing?'I said.

He pointed at the cool box*. 'I'm delivering your milk,' he explained.

I opened the cool box and there it was, three pints and a carton of eggs.

'Isn't this delivery due tomorrow morning?' I asked. He shrugged.

'It's nearly tomorrow morning,' he said, adding; 'are you all right? You scared me!'

'You scared me!' I laughed and he laughed back and drove away. But I'm confused. Why are we getting Thursday morning's milk on Wednesday night? Doesn't that just give it more time to get old? I mean, OK, it may just be 5-7 hours, so perhaps I'm making a fuss about nothing. But it feels odd or is that me?
