I have more to say about where I’ve been, but this has to be different.
Man, I have read some questionable stuff about that submersible. There are people, good people, nice people, who simply cannot forgive the rich, no?

And the funny thing is, I'm not sure they can forgive the poor either.

As though anyone deserves the death that may be so very close by.
And it does feel close by.

Some are treating it as an echo of decadence and hubris. Some seem to be angrily enjoying it and might even shout at me why does this matter more than an earthquake in [wherever]? The answer is that of course it doesn’t.

I read Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness many years ago, later to be redrawn in Apocalypse Now. But the Heart of Darkness doesn’t need the horrors of the Congo or Cambodia. It's perfectly peachy on a sunny morning in Normalsville, when someone sips their coffee, reads the news, and feels vindicated that a stranger terrified and dying in the cold and dark deserves it.

[Edited to add:]appears to have been very quick. There's mercy in that.
