So, a weekend on a camp site pretending to be a foxwoman in a brave new worlds of flintlocks and frockcoats, magic and muskets, angels and golems and snakes and bugs...it's all at Maelstrom http://www.profounddecisions.co.uk/misc/liveroleplaying.asp.
Live roleplaying is just an extension of the playground, with everybody getting what they can out of the costume trunk in the attic, and everybody making up their own lines. Sometimes playgrounds are cruel, harrowing places, cos children can be monstrous egos and hurt each other badly. And sometimes, of course, it's just fun. Making things up and playing characters is usually lots of fun.
This did not get off to a good start for me. Exhausted before we set off, I was almost in tears before time in. We had put up much tentage, carried stuff from car to camp and having arrived there at 1.30, I was only just costumed up at 9pm, exasperated and shaking, trying to thread cable ties around little untieable gems by torchlight, on the verge of screaming at nothing at all.
It got better, or rather, I got better. Anything else was impossible, given the calibre of the group I was with, a great bunch of people, fantastic roleplayers and just really nice chums; good things included spending time with them and other friends I haven't seen for too long, a delicious meal at the IC restaurant created by
clawbeast and his group (see his lj for stunning photos of what they created somewhere out there in a field), and real development of the character I was playing; This fox maiden started out as very shy, due to the flaws of the mask I was wearing, which pretty much swallowed up my voice. Things are changing. The mask has to go, I am desperate for something wearable.I want this; http://www.angel-mask.com/wolfmask.htm, only I can't afford it. And anyway, for all the gorgeousness of these masks, I have no guarantee that they're any more bearable than the one I have and can't wear now.
The only really bad thing about the event was the sheer exhaustion/cold at night which KO'd me, ruining my hopes of spending quality time with chums, in particular completely missing
spiraltower. The weather this month is just crazy, boiling days, freezing nights.

Date: 2006-09-12 09:48 am (UTC)I'm on my second face for Maelfroth, the teeth on the first one had turned into blobs of "molten" latex goo when I had got onto site for this year's easter event. So I got a second one. I'vehad no problems with it myself other than the silly heat of this year's events.
Hmm, I wonder if we've ever met IC? Sgt. Bheka, gnoll surgeon/priest from Flambard, friends with the 33rd etc etc
