I suppose for those following the overarc, it may have more charm. But I didn't think much of the writing at all.

I have this problem with almost all of new Dr Who. to me, the Doctor is someone who goes out and about and finds brilliant or fun or scary things. he is a character, but the stories are not _about_ him. Far too much of the new series is about the Doctor-as-protagonist and however interesting the writers may find that, it has worn very thin.
