End of year meme
2011, you have been one of the most important years of my life. So let's look at you.
1.What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
Gently napped in the coils of a 9 foot boa constrictor. Dived off a launch. Visited the ruins of Pompeii. Visted a beerhall in Munich. Cleaned mud out of horses hooves.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Just the most important. Got away from the channel, got another job. New beginning.
3.Did anyone close to you give birth?
My cousin Carmen's first child, a little boy in July. Next door neighbours had a wee baby girl in late November. Please forgive me anyone if I have forgotten a new arrival, I get all my news mixed up. Did Joshua Brind arrive in the world this year?
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.
5. What countries did you visit?
Bavaria and the Amalfi coast.
6. What would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
Time to write, sleep. More time abroad exploring. Something else that will have to remain private for now.
7. What date from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory?
11th July, my beautiful birthday night overlooking Odysseus' famed bay of sirens.
Friday night 25/11 into Saturday morning 26/11.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
That same night, the scarring of my thumb. I will never forget what that means.
Walking out of my job; no rancour and lots of affection, but at long last having the sense to know a toxin from a tealeaf.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Ironically, for a year of so many challenges, I can't think of anything I would call a failure.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
See 8.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My nuuuu phone, the Experia Arc, with its little gadget for taking pics and vids!
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Celebration isn't quite the word. I can't express the love I feel when I consider the power and strength of my best friend <'lj user="larians">. There are others too, but I won't embarrass folk by writing names here. Never have I needed kindness and support as much as over the past month, and I have been offered so much by people on my friends list and off it. I can't write about it because it makes me cry. But you know who you are. Thank you with all my heart xxx
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
An uninvited visitor.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Summer ate it.
15. What did you get really excited about?
Wedding news! Snakes! Doggies!
16. What song will always remind you of 2011?
Moves Like Jagger - Maroon 5.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? big picture much happier. There are glitches...
ii. thinner or fatter? fatter! Bad boot!
iii. richer or poorer? Just a bit richer
18. Did you fall in love in 2011?
No, I've been hanging out with this guy for 12 years. Maybe it's time we went steady.
19 How many one-night stands ?
None at all. Not my idea of a good time.
20. What was your favourite TV program?
The Great British Bake-Off. I can't help it!
21. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Actually no.
22. What was the best book you read?
*hangs head in shame* I read a book then forgot it. Oh, but it's been a good year for poetry; 'Childe Roland to the Dark Tower came,' and all that.
23. What was your greatest musical discovery?
The Destroyers, courtesy of
velvet_the_cat
24. What did you want and get?
Out.
25. What did you want and not get?
Time and money combined!
26. What was your favourite film of this year?
Can't remember
27. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Hair I liked
28. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2011.
little skirt, big boots. Same as 2010, 2009, etc...
29. What kept you sane?
Me. No-one is more surprised at this than I am.
30. What political issue stirred you the most?
The summer riots
37. Who did you miss?
Chums generally. I hope to make up for that in 2012.
38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011.
I am still learning it. I like myself today more than I have done in many years.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
"And I'd walk through hell and high water.
Wash away with the tide.
I can lose a damn war all by myself,
if you were on the other side.
So, in the morning when the rooster crows,
pack your bags and get ready to go.
If you're walkin' through hell and high water, please don't do it alone."
Bye bye 2011. Thanks for everything.
Now let go, and let's go!

Oh and: "20. What was your favourite TV program?
The Great British Bake-Off. I can't help it!"
[grin] The chocolate ganache filling on Mary Berry's Sachertorte is very good, as is her lemon tart pastry. Thought you should know...
