Sprawled on the bed,
white-legged ,too hot
dreaming breeze-lazy
I saw

My first ancestor,
naked on the rocks
marked by the sun
eating fruit and laughing

Asked of herself
she pointed to the mountains
she had crossed them
but could not give them names.

I name-numbered them all
but couldn’t walk them
she stared surprised
at my painted feet

worldless promise
she waits for me
waving through the gap
in Eden’s Wall
