Wedding fantasy number 2

I have already spoken of my idea for wedding fantasy number 1b): one of London's dapper registry offices, Marylebone/Chelsea Town Hall/Finsbury/Bethnal Green, complete with confetti on the pavements and a mini to drive us off to a fab nosh and knees up, very 60s rock star without stars and purple. Admittedy it isn't my ultimate wedding, 1a) which would be a destination affair; Yosemite, Jasper or Banff or some beach in the Carribean or under a tree in the outback or in the Metropolitan Art Gallery in Sydney. All wonderful, but the fact is, we would sooner have friends around us on our wedding day. First, love, then party, then expedition.

Fantasy number 2a) then would be in the beautiful back garden belonging to [livejournal.com profile] larians parents. They have already offered us marquee space and the pasture beyond the gardens for camping guests. Now this would be lovely, but English law still requires the legalisation of a wedding to happen in a place licensed for such. It's so annoying. Why can't they follow the Scottish method, where the registrar is the point rather than the place? Still, I can't quite give up the marquee idea, even if it's a bit done to death; An Easter wedding, with sweetpeas and daisies, bunny folded napkins, yellow striped awning and a home made creme egg for each guest. We could ask said guests to bring umbrellas in case it rains, but ask that they be brightly coloured, so that even if it tips down, we all dazzle with colour. There's the other thing. It would rain, it might even snow. There's one Easter I will never forget; of rain there was much but of wind much much more, it blew lines of tents straight up into trees, or simply launched them into orbit beyond the Lickey Hills. And it was so cold that nothing, no quilts, no hides, no heaters, no clothes, no sleeping bags, no efforts known to man, no combination of the aforementioned could keep it bearable. The snow actually warmed things up. I went home in a friend's car on Saturday night, and never returned.

From that point of view, we might as well go for Winter, knowing what to expect, and do the whole thing indoors. Soon we are going to check a few venues in Devon, see if they feel right. In the meantime, I say farewell to dreams of Neuschwanstein. Mighty castle, I applaud you, not just because you are gorgeous, but because you are the only place where my mother's approved-for-boot fantasy wedding dress would match the decor;

Yes, I'm tempted to send the photo off to some tailor in China and ask them if they could make me a copy for less than my mortgage...but I fear the result might overpower my groom!

It might at that, it's hard to know what he would wear alongside it!
