A Date with the Devil

Today was about futile journeys. Yesterday, the post brought a parcel for R, and as no-one was here to sign for it, they took it away again. Now it's being kept in the middle of nowhere until one of us collects it. I decided to dedicate my morning to getting this thing back and had nearly arrived at the holding depot, when I re-read the instructions only to realise I had no chance without identity for R. His passport's with him in Edinburgh so he'll have to pick up this mysterious parcel himself when he gets back.
So having wasted enough time doing something pointless, I decided to go in search of Lucifer, apparently depicted very impressively a few years back in what used to be the Holy Trinity Church.

I walked a long way only to find that the building was right in front of Great Portland Street station, far closer to my old stomping grounds. Found the building, told it was deconsecrated and now a private events venue. All well and good. I told them I was doing research for an essay ( kind of true) and could I see the sculpture? A kindly workman let me in. The space was sumptuous but the bad boy was gone. Looked as though he'd cut all those strings and left.
It was frustrating in a way, but it also tickled me to think of the Devil getting the hell out before I could bother him. I can see him in my minds eye flapping through Soho trailing a few left over wires til he found the Gay Hussar all boarded up; and because Greek street's the best, plus the House of St Barnabas is just round the corner, that's where he's staying, congratulating himself on his narrow escape.
