I have to make an effort to come back to the warm. There's work to do today, but first, to practice this way of flexing my energy, even if I am not lucid. It may not work entirely but it's better than nothing.

Does no harm to accept the presence of shock.

So then, rattle rattle. To the election.

The SNP won, the Scottish parliament has a pro-independence majority, and our First Minister declares that it is not a matter of if but when. BJ sent a letter almost immediately to Nicola Sturgeon and Mark Drakeford talking about a 'Team UK' summit and our shared challenges. Well, one of the major challenges all the countries of the United Kingdom share is a PM to whom The Truth is the ultimate foreign power. England seems fine with that. Others, not so much.

The thing is, BJ has no problems ignoring treaties and promises so there's no point relying on a word he says, even if it is signed on a binding contract. He will happily break it if it's not with the USA, whom he'll fawn on all the while hoping for Trump's return. Perfidious Albion is a questionable friend, a sly and dangerous enemy.

But Scotland could go ahead and have a consultative referendum. He'd make himself look terrible and cement Scottish support for independence if he fought it in the courts though England would probably have no problems with that. The Union is supposed to be voluntary, and England doesn't quite seem to believe it. A friend of mine described Scotland as 'basically a county.' They're a very good person but there's nothing more county than an education like that.

I was brought up a daughter of the Union, and fiercely believed it to be, for all its faults, more benign than malign for its citizens. I believed that no one premier could be so bad as to offset the benefits of all working together. I was wrong; a bad premier can make working together impossible, and England, with the exception of its major cities, seems determined to become a proto-fascist state. There's no guaranteee that Boris Johnson is the worst they will ever vote for. If that's what they want, that's what they'll get; but I want no part in it.

Hmmmm.

I don't know enough about UK politics to qualify for an opinion on the subject. But when has that ever stopped me? 😊. If I were a UK citizen, I'd definitely vote for Scottish independence.

Of course, if it were an option, I'd vote for breaking up the U.S., too. The U.S. is too big. And I don't feel as if I have enough in common with the inhabitants of Mississippi and Alabama to want to share a government with them. Doubtless, they feel the same way about me. 😊
