The real Hawksmoor played a part in my creative life, long ago. What can I say? I recall one who said he hated recurring themes. If I was like that my whole life would be torture. Forgetting Hawksmoors real and unreal, this place is sound. Beetroot, fennel and hazelnuts! Camembert melted over mash! Old Cubans! Sgroppino! I am still stuffed to the gunnels. Meanwhile remembering 6 years ago, before Covid and lockdowns, and Trump and Johnson, and just after that stupid Brexit vote but before people had any clue what it meant for them, I married this guy.
While I love red and black and hats and all that, still the most beautiful things in this photo are his eyes.
