If this town's under-20 population makes it to adulthood without experiencing at last one sugar coma, it won't be my fault. They were out in force last night, trick or treating, guising and generally screaming triumphantly at each other over who had harvested the most chocolate. They were happy, and I'm pleased to have been a part of that. I am, surprise surprise, tired. November, one of my favourite months, whirls around the house in wild temper and my eyelids droop and writing comes hard.

R tells me that he is meant to be going to dinner with colleagues and their wives, and would I like to join them? I really could use some smartening up and just do not feel like it, don't want to go get my hair cut/nails painted/eyebrows plucked, don't want to shop for new clothes. But these things are needed for Malta anyway, so time to pull myself together, a bit of easy vanity and attentiveness to chase away the blues. The fact that I am not interested serves as a warning; probably more down than I realise. I have a gorgeous maxi leopard print coat to wear, this would be the perfect evening for it. All I need is a black blouse plus protector for my new boots, none of this is hard. I feel taxed by anything and nothing. The dinner's the kind of thing I will be uncertain about til I get there and then everything will be fine. Malta, now suddenly doable again because I have a reasonable cat sitter, will be full of light and sun. It's all good.

If I want to be annoyed about something trivial, I could always pick on Ahsoka. Not that it isn't better than much SW stuff, there are some cool characters - Ahsoka Tano herself and Admiral Thrawn, well played though even luminaries like Rosario Dawson and Lars Mikkelsen can't match Ray Stephenson's gravitas as Baylan Skoll. But there is so much fatuous rubbish here. If anyone wonders why this galaxy far far away is always in the grips of some multi-solar-system-spanning crisis despite having scientic marvels beyond our ken plus magic, the answer is that the average IQ is at least 10 points below that of an Earth crow. Logically, the only reason the Empire ever lost out to the rebels was because Darth Vader and the Grand Moff Tarkin kept killing commanders for failing one order. If they just cooled their jets like Thrawn, they'd have millions of devoted troops getting better at what they do. But that would require George Lucas et al to become better at what they do, which isn't happening.

There see? Bit of a gripe, feeling better already. Time for lunch.
