Glastonbury in Spring

Whimsy's invited me down, suggesting Spring. There's a worry about energy levels cos I'm wiped out and apparently can look forward to a couple of months of this, but if I can manage, it would be excellent. I could do with walking up the tor again, and wandering Wearyall hill and the chalice gardens, seeing the others at the George and Pilgrim or that place with the name I can never remember, only knowing it's where we always end up. In all my years of knowing the town - and sometimes living there - I never got round to seeing the abbey ruins. We can wander Dion Fortune's Avalon and wait for strange tidings borne on purple-sailed ships from Atlantis, a particularly mysterious prospect given we're at least 23 miles from the sea.

But it's a faffy journey. Flight probably means Edinburgh to Bristol Airport, then Bristol Airport to Bristol Temple Meads for train/bus to Castle Cary, Castle Cary to Glastonbury via broomstick or something. My suspicion is that at least one of these journeys relies on the service to be avoided at all costs, CrossCountry Trains, also known as Satan's Horrible Railway.

So hmm. Pause for thought.

Uh, yeah. From what I hear of British transport that sounds like A Lot, even for the able-bodied.

Yes, and these are the clowns responsible for our terrible journeys to and from the West Country last Xmas. It would be a concern even if I was at 100%.

Whimsy's someone I've known for much longer, a retired Wiccan businesswoman. You know the poem you asked me if I wrote? It's based on the vibe of her London parties. Now she has a place in Glastonbury too. I would enjoy the visit very much, but am not sure I currently have the puff to get there.

I've noticed a shift for myself in the journey faff/event benefit ratio. Eg a weekend thing with excellent people, but requiring two days off work, eight hours travel each way and probably not sleeping well or having consistent access to the right sorts of food - probably I'll give it a miss. Possibly being so well settled and surrounded by goodness at home makes a difference too.

Agree completely re the faff/benefit ratio. We will be off to Malta sometime in the near future. I'm dazed to realise that getting to St Julian's may well be faster and cheaper than getting to Glastonbury!

Yeah. Travelling in the UK is *weird*. Malta should be lovely, albeit with different vibes.
