Gotta be done. Stay away from this post dear friends who are devoted Catholics. I don't mean to hurt you, I either like you lots or even love you a bit, and I certainly respect you with all my heart, but this anger I feel cannot stay inside me. Treat it like a big raven shrieking on my shoulder or in my head. I can't shut it up. I have to let it out.

Mugabe at the Pope's funeral.

What the fuck is that about? Here I am desperate to think better of the old man, and last night I found out that Mugabe is allowed to attend this funeral, and give himself credence before his ill used people, before all the world, hard on the heels of his grotesquely corrupt elections. I was shaking with rage then and still am. Maybe there is something I don't know that alleviates this. But that is not what the raven says.

What do John Paul II and Mugabe have in common? Their penchant for ideologies that kill millions of people? Is this a case of Apocalyptic Horsemen showing their respects? After all Mugabe isn't doing a bad impression of Famine (What is it the Book of Revelation says of this fellow on the black horse with the scales: 'A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny.' Throw in your Zanu PF membership and call it a deal!)

And though the quotes re the bringer of pestilence are much more vague, let's not do old JP down, he's done quite well with his insane, inane ban on contraception. I got this quote from the CNN website:

"In Africa, one of the few areas where the church is expanding but where 25 million people live with HIV, some pressure groups say the church's continued opposition to condoms threatens the fight against AIDS.

"Where there are extreme forms of poverty, people rely on the Roman Catholic Church for handouts, and when those handouts come with advice on not using condoms then that has a very big impact," said Nadira Omarjee, a researcher at People Opposing Women Abuse, a group based in Johannesburg, South Africa."

Nothing like necessary help with a few strings attached.

25 million people. Is that why his followers are calling him, 'The Great'?

I wish. I wish. I wish everyone who's wearing a black armband, everyone who is lighting a candle, every one putting their change in a collection tray for the holy father would donate time or money or care or something, something other than their fucking sentiment and fear, to an organisation like the Terence Higgins trust or some hunger alleviator that doesn't come with a signed obligation to government or god.

Food medical care and condoms for those who need it, not bribes and indoctrination! One penny, one cent, one euro for every person bending their knees and weeping for this rich old windbag, champion of...of what? Freedom? Freedom against communism? Wow yeah, poor Karol, he suffered that himself so that's got to be the biggest demon on the planet. Freedom against fascism? nice reversal on the Vatican's links with the nazis in WWII, but OK, go for it. Freedom for 51% of the human population already the most common butt of prejudice across the earth? Er, no go, that slit instead of a penis makes all the difference. God just doesn't like you, especially when you talk back. Oh, but don't feel bad...don't think every penis deserves freedom; just those pointing in the Church approved direction. Ignore the fact that sometimes that direction seems to be towards the under-age; Good old JP did, or at least, his ministers were slow and reluctant in pursuit of offenders. After all, everyrone looks after their own...

Someone tell me what in the living hell of the world we are making, this has to do with Jesus Christ? With helping the poor and defending the weak and loving each other and becoming closer to God? Blessed are the meek, but maybe children with aids in their veins and empty bellies aren't meek enough; the hungry cry out while they still have strength. Then, they get very meek indeed. Curiously enough they never notice the privilege of their blessing.

I will lie in the arms of fallen angels and cry and rage and burn and freeze before I give this filthy farce my loyalty.

May the true flame of compassion and love and joy in the good, be burning inside us, in our hearts and souls, for if it isn't there, it won't be found anywhere else.

And with that, the nasty old bird flies away.
