This sounds really amazing:

http://www5.nationalgeographic.com/genographic/participate.html

I am trying not to be too enthusiastic before finding out more about it. If all my cheek swab could tell me was that my maternal haplopool was of a kind found in the Iberian peninsula for the last several thousand years, it's hardly worth the money. But it sounds more interesting than that; I'm waiting to get a bit more info out of National Geographic.

A very pleasant night, spent first with [profile] ellistar and [profile] scary_lady and then with [profile] larians and [personal profile] bad_moon_rising. Contemplation and a little bit of tuning in, fascinating conversations, and beer. Who could ask for anything more?

I had a strange dream last night. I will put that in a private posting I think.

Addendum: No I won't as I appear to have deleted the whole thing! Blast!
Instead, for those who have read about the iniquities of Tesco and feel impelled to do something, here's a place where you can find farmer's markets near you.

The geneology kit sounds great, but is quite expensive. National Geographic are usually fairly reliable though. You should mention this to Dan, as I recall him being fairly convinced that he's not actually Anglo Saxon (he reckoned Mongolian whilstI reckoned Icelandic) and used to be curious to find out what his racial background actually was. This might help.

It is indeed expensive, which is why I'm not leaping right at it. I don't really get a sense of precise information from the webpage, all I get is context. So I've contacted them to see if I can get more specific info.

I will certainly mention it to Dan - I had no idea this kind of thing interested him.

Let me know when you get the info from them, cos I think that looks really interesting too.
