So the red mist is replaced by the red flood, which explains my wrathful mood and nasty dream I suppose. And though it is physically uncomfortable, at least the pre-onset evil is vanishing. My sleep was hot and irritable but dreamless, and today my head doesn't feel like it could turn round and look at you without help from my neck.

To those who may have read my dream and fear for their automobiles, don't be dumb, I don't hate you or your car. It was just a dream all right? I would never smash the windows in; if I was going to do anything I'd cut the brakes. Just my little joke there.

Last night was very pleasant, frothing about 5th season. This is a small new larp system, modern day based, better explained by [personal profile] bad_moon_rising than me - he's the one getting us all enthused. It really does sound and look good. We looked at airsoft guns. Guns can be pretty. It's a strange thing, the decoration of weapons; all those beautifully crafted rapiers and katanas. When one considers their function they really should look horrible, guns even more so, but there are some models with a real ergonomic grace.

No, this is no good. I can't move and I can't think. Time to lie down. But first however, with thanks from [profile] delvy:

Killing weapons = pretty and interesting
Medical implements = ugly and terrifying

It's a funny old world.

I was nearly at 5th season - it was only a prior booking to monster a faction sanctioned event that kept me from going, but it did look very tempting.

Off airsofting this weekend for a day - but with no LRP element to it.

Sweetie, I would be surprised to hear that you even knew where the brake cable was.

I feel the Audi is safe from you.

There's a cable?

I have never tried airsofting - the nearest I have come to it is paintball, which is probably no comparison.

Very good point. I wonder why this is?

It made my morning a bit brighter:-)

I wonder if it's subconsciously related to power vs helplessness?

That's quite a disturbing site!

It's a much easier comparison than starting from nowhere :-)

Main differences:

Smaller solid pellets instead of big paint pellets

1: pellets go further,
2: getting hit hurt less (per pellet),
3: pellets cost far less - so everyone can afford to shoot lots of them without worrying
4: dry - no paint - so glasses wearers can wear open metal grid safety classes rather than plastic ones that steam up
5: points 1 & 3 mean that you have to be a lot more "tactical" - you can't run past tomeone who can see you and expect not to get hit.
6: 5: means that it's nt just acase of the fastest people who cna afford the most pain pellets who win.

The guns look and feel like real ones.

Otherwise, it's much like paintball. The games tend to be designed so that you're not out for a whole game when hit - various mechanisms, such as 'go back to a clock and wait five minutes', to allow people back in.

More of a LRP-style trust system. There's no paint mark, and the pellets are pretty hard to watch, so you have to trust people to take their hits.

Overall, very similar fun to paintball, but suits me better.

It's from something called Ozymandias' handbook of sabotage and direct action volume 2. I presume it's a spoof, but it makes you wonder what gems volume 1 had to offer...

Because my understanding of physics is rubbish, I don't see how small hard pellets can sting less than paintballs. Got to say it sounds much more interesting and cheaper overall than paintball.

Are you thinking of coming to 5th season at some point?

I was thinking something along those lines. There's no glamour to a scalpel, just a cringe factor unless you are skilled in its use. A gun doesn't need skill to give one power or a sense of it.
