mens sana in corpore sano
Apr. 15th, 2005 08:40 amSo the red mist is replaced by the red flood, which explains my wrathful mood and nasty dream I suppose. And though it is physically uncomfortable, at least the pre-onset evil is vanishing. My sleep was hot and irritable but dreamless, and today my head doesn't feel like it could turn round and look at you without help from my neck.
To those who may have read my dream and fear for their automobiles, don't be dumb, I don't hate you or your car. It was just a dream all right? I would never smash the windows in; if I was going to do anything I'd cut the brakes. Just my little joke there.
Last night was very pleasant, frothing about 5th season. This is a small new larp system, modern day based, better explained by
bad_moon_rising than me - he's the one getting us all enthused. It really does sound and look good. We looked at airsoft guns. Guns can be pretty. It's a strange thing, the decoration of weapons; all those beautifully crafted rapiers and katanas. When one considers their function they really should look horrible, guns even more so, but there are some models with a real ergonomic grace.
No, this is no good. I can't move and I can't think. Time to lie down. But first however, with thanks from

Date: 2005-04-15 11:34 am (UTC)Main differences:
Smaller solid pellets instead of big paint pellets
1: pellets go further,
2: getting hit hurt less (per pellet),
3: pellets cost far less - so everyone can afford to shoot lots of them without worrying
4: dry - no paint - so glasses wearers can wear open metal grid safety classes rather than plastic ones that steam up
5: points 1 & 3 mean that you have to be a lot more "tactical" - you can't run past tomeone who can see you and expect not to get hit.
6: 5: means that it's nt just acase of the fastest people who cna afford the most pain pellets who win.
The guns look and feel like real ones.
Otherwise, it's much like paintball. The games tend to be designed so that you're not out for a whole game when hit - various mechanisms, such as 'go back to a clock and wait five minutes', to allow people back in.
More of a LRP-style trust system. There's no paint mark, and the pellets are pretty hard to watch, so you have to trust people to take their hits.
Overall, very similar fun to paintball, but suits me better.
