Lots of love and thanks to [profile] itsjustaname, [personal profile] thalinoviel and [personal profile] mitchy for all those positive thoughts and reassuring words.

Yesterday was wretched; We both wandered through rain and foul weather, looking for the little bastard. In despair we left a kitchen window open. At 3 am this morning I was woken by a purring head-butting experience on my pillow. I stroked it absent-mindedly thinking it was Surya; then I opened my eyes and noticed the total blackness of the beast. It was him, our own little "divvil cat," to quote [personal profile] bad_moon_rising, happy to be home and hungry too.

He cost me so many tears yesterday. Jan sans lj, who had been with us over Friday night, tried to console me by buying me a sunflower, and some purple primroses. Both were lovely, and the primroses were very unusual. The petal edges are slightly lighter, almost silvery, giving the blooms the illusion of being faintly lace-lined.

The other casualty was my birthday surprise. In his attempts to help me out of my desolation, [profile] larians revealed that tickets are bought and everything is arranged for my birthday in July. We are going to Paris for a week!

P.S. Oh yes, and Dr Who was rather good: 'You would make a good dalek.' By the end I didn't know who I felt more sorry for...

PHEW! Thank heavens he's back. Bloody kittens, eh? Such a nuisance...

PS [livejournal.com profile] bytepilot says, you do have a catflap, right?

You recall saying you were not a cat person?

We have a catflap that leads from the kitchen to the conservatory, but we haven't really had time to train them to use it so it's permanently open.

We haven't got a catflap out to the garden, because that will need to be installed in one of the outer walls - Q building work for money we don't have! Hopefully that will change later in the year.

Fortunately I've never had this problem, but I understand from [livejournal.com profile] nyarbaggytep and various others that boy cats tend to do this. I have heard on many occasions of them disappearing for two or three days. That's not to say I wouldn't be beside myself if it were my cat though.

As for cat flaps - in my experience it might well be that they know very well how to use it but are just pretending that they don't to get extra attention. Why should they open the door themselves if you'll do it for them? If you want to check that, put them in the conservatory with an incentive to get outside (like visible nice food) and then make a show of turning your back. Even my little "oh so helpless" moglet managed to figure it out in less than ten seconds in that scenario.

The vet told me Ralik would be less prone to do tomcat things after his op. Har har har.

Thanks for the catflap idea. I will definitely try it.

Oh, and Paris! *grins* cheers for giving larians the idea!

Paris? *protests innocence*

However, imagine my horror when you told me you were thinking of arranging a surprise weekend "somewhere like Paris" to cheer him up!

*LOL*

I had completely forgotten that. Could have been a very expensive summer!

Tom cats will run off even after the vet has seen to them. Khan ran off for two weeks once and came back covered in sheep ticks. I was living in South Norwood at the time, not known for it's sheep.

Yeah cat flaps, they much prefer you to open the door, or indeed window if you are a white mutant who is the result of what happens when relatives f*ck, there is more attention that way. They WILL use the flap if pressed. You have to be cruel to be kind. Khan of course worked out how to use the flap by just watching his older brother and sneaked out before he had all his injections.

Two weeks! You must have nerves of steel - I would have been madshriekingcatwoman with no hair on one side of my head!

Re catflaps, you have strengthened my resolve. They will be taught!

I was sad, but he's a big bad cat who knows how to look after himself. Apart from that time he got hit by a truck of course. He is not my favourite cat, yes I am wicked and have favourites, he loves and is loved by everyone, he doesn't crave my unconditional adoration like the others do. Had it have been Aslan, my favoured puss, or indeed when Jadis, who can barely look after herself as it is, went missing, it was a different story...

I have not acquired the required stoicism of cat-ownership yet. They're still around the 6-7 month mark, and, despite his baleful stare and her gymnastic perfection, a right pair of eeejits.

Aslan and Jadis are beautiful names. I remember Narnia...

True the their names, they absolutely hate each other.

Shere Khan has three legs, the Limping King. This was his name before he was hit by the truck, can't help feeling I did him a diservice there...
