The words 'Red Rum' scrawled across a washing machine splattered in dark sweet ichor no-one is desperate enough to lick off. A body nearby, a white cat washes its paws nonchalently. The happening ofmmmmmmiso soup and sushi. The mystery of Gothic Glasgow, ill-met by Lovecraftlight, cheery salutations out of the dark, grinning faces, music from Carnevale and other strange sources. Kilts. Curry. Wreckage. My sudden inability to construct sentences.

With thanks for the marvellous hospitality of [profile] squintywitch aided and abetted by [personal profile] bad_moon_rising. Meeting many marvellous peeps, including [personal profile] invisible_al, [profile] erestania, [profile] jennifermc and [profile] daisyann. Not meeting my father (cheers to [profile] falco_biarmicus and Neil sans lj whose invaluable 'help' sustained me through the conversation with him the night before;-))

Yes, the daddo was insistent. He was insistent that we had agreed to meet on the 31st rather than the 1st, he was insistent that we drive out to Helensborough where the rest of the frightful brood have made their lair from the bones of the inhabitants, rather than our original plan of central Glasgow. He insisted about a lot of things. As I'm sure you can imagine, I respond well to insistence.

I don't really know why I agreed to the idea in the first place; personally, I blame a misplaced sense of the poetical. Meeting up in Glasgow. My dad comes from Glasgow, so there's the story; Maybe I have to meet the ogre before I can enter 'his' enchanted city; when I have met him and assimilated the lesson he has to teach me, I will realise that he is just a person with problems, and not an ogre at all, and we will both leave the experience wiser, kinder and stronger. My holiday and indeed, my life will be all the better for learning this deep wisdom...then out of nowhere, the psoriasis returned and I cancelled, due to the idea being utter bollocks. Hogmanay in Glasgow is to be enjoyed, and being valiantly polite at a malevolent nutter is not an ordeal I must undergo to deserve it.

I am beginning to see a point to this stress/psoriasis thing. I'm forever a fix-it merchant; well, some things are too much aggravation to fix. From now on, if it makes my skin crawl, it becomes someone else's problem, probably that of the person making my skin crawl. I didn't meet my father, the recurrence is fading as fast as it arrived. 2006 brings me my first resolution. I'm taking it to heart.

And the moral of the story says...

Some ogres really are not princes in ensorcellment but bonecrushing fee-fi-fo merchants of the old school which are best viewed at a distance with a large stick to hand.

Oh, I don't know...they don't need to be princes, just ogres with humour, like shrek or something. Bone-crushing isn't a problem if you possess the ability to switch from princess to dragon in less than a round, but it's still an almighty bore if all you want to do is skip around camelot in a chiffon nightie.

My psoriasis always knows I am stressed before I do. It is a pain in the butt, but it is worth paying attention to.

And whilst it was probably highly inappropriate, I haven’t laughed like that in ages. It was the moment when our eyes met, and all three of us dissolved into little puddles.

it's like a spider-sense only itchier!

Re the conversation, it worries me that it took me being wrecked and Dad being drunk for us to be able to maintain manners and even make sense to each other.

Hang on a mo... thinking about it, it doesn't worry me at all!*LOL*
