The Festival of Pax

Today is the Roman feast day dedicated to Pax, the goddess of peace. Her temple stood open in times of peace, closed in times of war; said temple was open for 200 years during the Pax Romana*. It was first closed by the Christians ('Blessed are the peacemakers...') who later tore it down.

We should build another temple to Pax, a place where the principle of peace is sanctified and revered, as opposed to turning up in dove form on millions of Christmas cards and then being forgotten. No-one would visit I suspect, but at least it would be there, and open. I'll try to remember this when I win the lottery.

It is important for me to consider this festival today, as I am in the mood to trot round to someone's house, knock on the door and when it's opened, yell; 'You pompous sanctimonious hypocritical windbag!' and hit them in the face with a pie. But this would be wrong. So instead, I will contemplate the temple of peace, and send the pie to Cicero. He may be dead, but it's still his birthday.
