Oh for God's sake!
Oct. 20th, 2003 01:09 amI can't believe what I'm hearing. Why do people do this to each other? Two sides in an argument have a row, which apparently gets sorted. Then one side, evidently still aggrieved, displays the argument to the world, out of context, way after the event...why? What is the bloody point of it? To say, 'See, see how badly I've been treated! Look, aren't they nasty? Are you with me? All chums together say 'Aye!''
I so mistrust this stuff. He who needs Trial by Chum to win his case probably doesn't have much of a case.
Of course, I'm no saint. I am passionate and partisan, I get angry with people for upsetting my friends, and am totally capable of making enemies in doing so, without ever giving a damn. I know my weaknesses. It's only natural to want to defend the people you love.
But what about justice or fairness? These things must matter in every day life or they will have no relevance in political life. If we say yes to personal bias as a basis for judgement, we say yes to witch-hunters and MacCarthyism, yes, in the end, to the Final Solution. Surely it's important to fight one's own prejudices whatever they are, and strive for justice whether it pleases us or not. That way, when the crowd turns against each of us - and it will, cos no-one can ever conform quite enough - we'll have contributed to a belief system that protects the individual. We so need it.
OK, enough of the rant. Got an outrageous, magnificent postcard today from Red Rauchette, Viking Charmer, Mister Washboard and Beetroot Boy. That's what friends are for!
And now, I am going to attempt something new, in the name of good chummery. I hope Bridiegirl appreciates this.
Bridiegirl's an artist / costumier / photographer/ all round crafty pagan person. Lots of her themes are pagan, but her everyday stuff is just as interesting. She tends to do lots of modern simple stuff. Her painting of 'The Roar,' based on the Egyptian Goddess Tefnut is totally funky. Now I'm going to see if I can create a link to her webpage:

Hmm. I'll bet that didn't work.
