Having just read jfs's lj entry about not interacting with other people's memes, I am instantly thrown into a panic thinking that if I don't comment when chums meme up their LJs, they may think I don't like them.

Very unlikely. I'm sure this is totally self evident, but whoever you are if I don't answer your meme it's cos either I don't know you or I can't think of anything to say, or I'm just a lazy git! Same reason I don't often update my friends list really.

I refuse to write a proper update, I'm too busy to focus on anything remotely constructive.
