So, medded to the max, I am sitting up in bed, typing this in a kind of exasperated despair. My dreams have been strange recently; on the 27th I dreamt Vladimir Putin stepped out of a vehicle and watched me rush past him. Can't remember where I was going.

Admittedly, that's how I feel about being a Green Party member. There are some excellent, to my mind necessary ideas - a carbon tax and dividend, universal citizens income, re-nationalising the NHS, re-nationalising public transport...but there is some stuff that just makes me want to bang my head against a wall, including one suggestion that, taken as it stands, would simply collapse the housing market and take the economy with it. The thing is, only the Green party has any interest in the environment, in animals, in ecology, in the reality of global warming and climate change; everyone else seems dedicated to business as usual. If I was a conspiracy theorist, I'd swear the Bilderberg Group just got them all together and said, 'Mmwelp, it's true, we've buggered the planet, there's no going back, so grab as much as you can and party like it's 1999. P.S keep quiet about it or our heads will be piked.'

But what is to be done? The party has some policies that could never be accepted as they stand - nor should they. But alongside this is a very real, very genuine concern, and an ability to look straight at the guts and bones future of the planet, and try to save it. Compassionate politics.

All I want is to be back with the abbey next door and the town below, touched by the wind and the sea.
