Back to the doctor's this morning.

My writing irritates me as I do it. Sometimes I read it back and it just seems awful. Other times it's clearly better than I realised. The trouble with fatigue is that it ruins one's sense of judgement; you become as bad a critic as you are a performer. I couldn't get to sleep last night and now can barely keep my eyes open.

So today will be chores day, and I'll return to work tomorrow. This is so crazy though; my eyes actually ache and I feel a bit sick.

The 5000

Well, not quite 5000. Some names on it are repeated, some who did sign are retired, and some who didn't sign are wondering why their names are on it.

Something odd is happening at Conservative Party Headquarters; it's like they have a communications director who was a genius in the 70s and now sleeps at the bottom of a cuba libre, sending out cries for help via coke bubbles. I wouldn't condem the Tories for asking for these little recommendations if they hadn been clear that this was what they had done; but somehow they have translated Karen Brady's coaxing/begging into a completely spontaneous outburst of support for the PM, and it just isn't true. The numbers aren't right, the facts aren't right...the only good thing about it is that the signatories can be checked. Matter of time before the Tories try to close up that wee loophole. Far more worrying than this desperate little pump-up, is the attitude of the Conservative Party towards information transparency. David Cameron was all for it. But try to find his promises prior to the last election and where are they? Transpires the Conservatives want to change history as they go along. (http://www.computerweekly.com/blogs/public-sector/2013/11/conservatives-erase-internet-h.html) And of course you can find copies in Hansard or the British Library - but you'll need to know exactly what you are looking for, and it will be much harder to know where to begin. Cos someone doesn't want you to compare Cameron today to Cameron in 2010, and work your way to conclusions from that. We're fighting Eastasia not Eurasia. We've always been fighting Eastasia.
