Blake before Work
May. 24th, 2015 08:18 amToday is destined to be a day of cleaning up, which I utterly detest, so decided to entertain myself with gazing at a few of William Blake's paintings before I begin. I'm a great fan of Blake, though more for his words than his images, and also...I feel bad about confessing it - his paintings and illustrations make me laugh. I marvel at them, for sure, but there's a point at which I begin to see captions at the bottom of every pic. It started the first time I was shown Cain and the discovery of Abel's body. It was the sun as bowling ball in pursuit that tickled me. No wonder Adam looked mildly surprised. I always wanted to see this painting animated.

Then there was the Witch of Endor, and those magnificent gestures, lessons in early movie acting:

And rebuking; Will loved rebuking. You know when you've been rebuked by this lot.

It does make me smile, though I'm sure the acerbic Mr Blake would have torn me to shreds for being such a childish idiot. The sun is shining, and I am stuck here with much boring stuff to do. So thanks Will, for cheering up my morning.
