I whinge as much as the next person when I'm ill and get pissed off with the NHS. But when I'm well and I look back, I know the NHS has served me,my family and many other families well for generations. Which is more than can be said for the current government.

Anyhoo, regarding the current shebang between Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt and the British Medical Association, my views are as follows.

No, a 90 hour working week for anybody is not acceptable, but by all means test this hypothesis out in the HoC, see how it works for civil servants and MPs. If it isn't appropriate for them, it sure as hell isn't appropriate for doctors.

No, a day that starts at 7am and ends at 10pm isn't a standard working day. See above.

No, a payrise that is then offset by reductions in other aspects of pay and increases in hours and obligations isn't a pay-rise.

No, an ambulance paramedic does not just drive the vehicle.

No, forcing doctors to work very long hours for less money is not about safety.

No, a contract is by definition, a written or spoken agreement. If the people you are negotiating with don't agree to it, it's not a contract.

So no, Mr Hunt, we're not interested in your dismal attempt at getting more work for less money. We trust our doctors. We don't trust you.

No, Mr Hunt, just no.
