Guilt II

Guilty pleasures... I always enjoyed Top Gear, particularly the specials. The Grand Tour is like a boyfriend who's been on a body building and steroid course for a year; he may look great/self conscious/over the top/ all of these, but there's no denying his effort.  Once it settles down it might be OK. I'll keep watching for now.

I think the time has come to attempt another friend for Azrael. He is now big  and I'm pretty sure he is a male. He is permanently bad tempered and I regret adding him to the tank at all -  silly me, being taken in by his good looks -  but now he's here, it's only fair to make him comfortable in the hope that he'll stop pursuing the others. Of course, he may hate his new buddy, chase them, stress them out, kill them... this will be the third time, and the last - seeing them dead on the floor really upsets me. So he has to give this one a chance. All I can do is try to ensure I get a female and even then, they can be pretty rough on each other. Besides, checking out the sex of an angel is really difficult. Basically males have slightly more bulgy foreheads and pointier tubes, but these latter are so tiny they can be very hard to make out.

He does keep growing. This alarms me.  I only have a 55 litre tank. They told me it would be enough.  I hate that shop.

...Swear to God,  Azrael, if you kill this one, you're on your own.

It is a medium sized angel cos the last one I introduced was small and died within the first hour. Angel fish advice is rubbish. You have to get a smaller one so hopefully the 'homeowner' will consider them too small to be rivals,  you have to get a larger one so that it can stand up for itself in new waters against an aggressor. You have to get the opposite sex cos one can only hope they'll fancy each other, you mustn't get males ever cos they just beat everything up, but you can't really tell till they sexually mature. How will you know when they sexually mature? They chase each other round/hit on each other/try to kill each other. However, they are thoroughly aggressive fish, who seem to chase each other round/hit on each other/try to kill each other at every stage of their lives so realistically speaking the only sensible piece of advice I have found across the intartubes is that each situation is different and  that there is no such thing as a consistent angel fish.

The tank is full of live food which usually makes them all happy. Azrael's been chasing the newcomer around, but he's not been utterly relentless... he kind of swims around a bit confused, goes for other fish, and then chases or swims quite close alongside. The latter is often a kind of buddy thing or a buzzing thing. There are plenty of places for Newbie to hide. Newbie needs a better name than Newbie, but no name until s/he's survived a day or two.

14 quid! I'm not even a fish fancier!
