The Truth of the Travelling Writer
Jan. 8th, 2018 08:04 amIs that I do one or the other but not both at the same time.
I see or I write, I write when I can't see much. Writing is the creation of my own landscape or the recording of another.
Just came across a writer's workshop in Vietnam, a place I very much want to visit. But the truth is, in Vietnam I don't want to explore otherworlds in my head; I am in a real place and I want to see it all, feel everything, understand it. If I was there for say, 6 months, I could begin to explore what Vietnam teaches me, what I find and see. My writing would be better. But a week or a fortnight is barely going to scratch the surface. I can't go to a magic land and not walk in it. I may take notes, but it is just as possible that the notes can - and will - wait, or simply never exist at all.
And now; to work.
