smokingboot: (strange things)
Today, I received a book ordered some time back; 'Travellers in the Third Reich,' The Rise of Fascism Through The Eyes of Everyday People.' Yes, that's my idea of light reading at the moment, god knows what's wrong with me. I started on it this afternoon, only to find myself at a page quoting the words of the then 'new' ambassador to Germany in 1926, Sir Ronald Charles Lindsay;'As far as I can make out work at Berlin is that of persistently sweeping water uphill with a very inefficient broom.' It surprised me because I recall a dream of being in Germany, with water running uphill.

Intrigued by the memory, I checked on Sir Ronald Lindsay, as I've never heard of him before. Can't find much about him except that he became Ambassador to the States. Today is his birthday.
