Eurovision and Birds of Prey
Jul. 1st, 2020 08:41 amI haven't watched the European Song Contest in years but know the tropes and loved the film. Ridiculously fun easy viewing, it makes me want to go to Iceland and talk to elves, though admittedly I've been up for that for a long time. It may be a lone journey though; Iceland isn't a place that sings to R.
Birds of Prey makes Suicide Squad look like Citizen Kane. Much is made of its 'unapologetic feminism'. I am a feminist, have been all my life, and really don't need condescension. I want a good film. This ain't it.
And The Black List? I have been watching because James Spader is very charismatic given his almost total lack of eyebrows. He got my attention in Secretary and has kept it since; I like his face more now, there's something about his gaze that's less pretty but stronger, more arresting. The character of Raymond Reddington is fun, but jaysus the rest of BL is BS, regularly jumping the shark.
PUTTING OFF WORK!
Another week between me and another edit would not be a bad thing in terms of clear headed appraisal, but I feel guilty if I'm not twiddling with it.
