Struck a match to light one of those scented candles, cos I could use a lift. Possibly applied too much force as the lit match head flew off and landed on my shoulder. Moments of swearing and frantic patting later, the house and I stink of burnt hair. I blame Rustin Cohle.
True Detective series 1 is on again, and I'm bowing out or I'll get no research of any kind done this afternoon. Besides, True Detective is night time viewing. But it was episode 3 that stopped me in my tracks when I should have been concentrating on that candle.

From about 1:00 onwards I just have to stare for a moment at the copper skinned hollow-cheeked ascetic with his too readable face and his eyes that keep telling, and the bone structure from Olympus and the endless agonising smarts all keeping me there; Poor Matthew McConnaghey seems a whole lot of nothing by comparison but that's the curse of being an excellent actor.
Seasons 2 and 3 were only OK, and season 4 is threatening Jodie Foster and Christopher Eccleston, which is all very well but feels like a losing battle against Louisiana made Carcosa. Landscape makes the story. There's always the undertow, the feeling of do I know this place? When the murmurations of starlings talk to you, and the horizon is on fire, where everything is like those dreams that seem familiar until you wake up and realise you haven't a clue where the hell you are.
Rustin Cohle would drive me mad very quickly because he's no fun. I'd be rolling my eyes and pouring stiff drinks for myself half an hour into his conversation. But he is beautiful, in the same way burned out cars can be beautiful. Of course, in real life you can't do anything with a burned out car; drive it and it's dangerous, fix it and it loses something. Think about it when you should be thinking of something else and you set your hair on fire.
Man, this is not a good smell.
