Blue and Gold
Sep. 4th, 2023 03:54 pmToday I got a parcel. In it were two Francis Hardinge books, a series of galactic bath bombs and some chocolates so delicious the scent rose right off them out of the wrapper.
I sent a message to the senders, thanking them. The message came back;
We love you very much Debbie.
It's impossible to convey what that means to me, how much all it all means, the love and the messages and the readiness to help. People offer time and wisdom, flowers and fairies. People bring so much. I am humbled, which I can say. But the feelings are so big, I cannot express them at all.
The house is full of bouquets and gifts and thoughtfulness. Everywhere I turn the hours are gleaming. My cat yelled at me like a grumpy old git and I followed him, thinking he was just wanting more food. Instead, he led me into the garden where I discovered the weather is warm and bright the way high summer should be. I lay on the grass for a long while as the cats came and swarmed over me, all purrs and head rubs and flumpings-down on the cut grass. We stayed there together under that smiling impeccably blue sky.
It occurred to me that while things have had their tough moments, my life has been beautiful, and funny, and full of love. And I had today. I hope to have tomorrow too, but you never can tell. You can just enjoy a time of blue and gold. So here's to that.
