Today I cooked something. Not just something, a proper meal, pan fried chicken in white wine sauce with artichoke hearts. The veggies were fine, the plates were suitably warmed, and it was OK. No, not OK, it was good. I'm a little shocked. How does one cope with such a paradigm shift?

Well done. I always knew your cooking couldn't be as bad as you made out.

Oh, my cooking can be pretty evil, no word of a lie. The world is a better place if I stay away from ovens. Now I have gone and done a whole bunch of unboot-like things, I have read instructions, prepared in advance, done what the book says. It's all very disturbing.

It takes years of preparing and reading instructions before being in any kind of a position to just throw things in a pan and come out with something edible. It doesn't mean you're crap, just unpracticised. One day I'll cook you one of my sponge cakes and you shall know the true definition of inability to cook. If you don't believe me, just ask Dan for an impartial judgement on that point!
