...is that we make sure there's one weekend a month we spend cuddling up, cleaning the house, doing stuff together, not going out to events/meeting chums etc.

Rules are made to be broken. Can we help it if the world's too damn interesting? Friday night, Sorts It Out came round and we had an excellent evening. Then last night, accompanied by Twinklebrain, Born To Rule, Sensible But Spiritual and Laughs Like Gravel, we went to see the Chisinau National Ballet perform the Nutcracker, choreographed by Yuri Grigorivitch.

The most interesting thing I found out about Chisinau is that it's the capital of a place called Moldova near the Ukraine. The most interesting thing about Grigorivitch is that he's done some hot shit with the Bolshoi ballet. And the most interesting thing about the Nutcracker is that it is still, well, the Nutcracker!

I remember being taken to the Nutcracker when I was a kid. It was inevitably the introductory ballet all parents drove their children to see in the hope that their nit-infested, knee-scuffed mini-psycho punks could give up the glue and transform into graceful Onegins, Coppelias and Giselles. The results were always extreme, either total boredom or total enchantment.

Last night I realised that I still find ballet very beautiful.

On this particular occasion, the dancing was fine but not utterly fantastic, and the sets were a tad dull (Hessian curtains? How bad can things be in Moldova?)but it still held great charm for me and for a theatre full of intense little boys, deelybopper-wearing little girls (no, I don't know why) and that greater audience of grown up kids who dress up all refayned, pay for posh seats, and then boo the iniquitous Mouse King as though they were seven again. Some magic never dies.
