Feb. 19th, 2009 06:51 amFrom the glorious arias of La Boheme last weekend to
squintywitch's astonishing account of nightshift in a hospital, art is everywhere. Knackered though I am, it excites and inspires me.
The workchums referred to in my earlier post have just won an MTV award for their ten minute film on knife crime. Here it is;

I am especially pleased for Genius Love Puppy who wants to use his prize money to film a fascinating subject about which he would prefer me to keep quiet. He'd better go for it though, or I will!
Congratulations will be in order the next time I have to haul my sorry carcass into the studio, i.e, this morning. I have been avoiding one colleague because he wants my critique on the film, and though I am very impressed, I wouldn't call it flawless. Now that he has his award and is in no fragile place, I feel more free to poke little holes, less the maiden aunt, more the maiden aunt's umbrella. And I find myself wondering: Could I do as well? Could I do better? I would love to try, though my last adventure with a camera ended with me taking a reel of photographs having forgotten to remove the lens cap. Who decided to make it transparent? Curse their folly!
No, I have to accept I have no photographic gift whatso-bleeding-ever. It's good to remind myself that there's story, Jim, but not as we know it, and learning new ways of telling keeps the brain fresh.
I will bear this in mind as I hit 7.30 am and my third cup of coffee.

Date: 2009-02-19 11:40 pm (UTC)Watched Genius Love Puppy's Movie, and it really touched me. Is there any way I could get to show it to the kids from the Community Centre?
Would Love Puppy like to do something with Clasford Stirling MBE, footballing maestro, card carrying local hero, and the least obedient employee I have ever had? Or has he done that stuff now? Gritty stuff to film I haz, and I'm all about trying to engage our kids with film and meeja stuff.

Date: 2009-02-20 06:43 am (UTC)I will be seeing GLP and other colleagues very soon, and will ask them for you. I can't imagine a problem unless the sponsors of the competition have some issue and that seems unlikely. My gut says the film-makers themselves would be very ready to help, they are idealistic peeps, and mean ever so well.
Remind me of the name of the community centre and who your employers are, is it Islington Borough? if you don't like to say here, send me a private mail, I'll get back to you asap!

Date: 2009-02-20 12:50 pm (UTC)Had a chat with one of the boys so they are prepped to hear from you; He recommended you reach them at contact@innwfilm.com rather than the Papermannequin address below, though they check both. So why send it there? I have no idea.
You could talk to them about your local hero idea too!
I hope this is of use to you.

Date: 2009-02-20 07:58 am (UTC)I've just checked my schedule and I'm not in the studio more than twice this week. If you are feeling shy, of course I'll mention it when I see them, but it's going to be faster to contact them direct via contact@papermannequin.com.
Mention if you like that you know me and saw the link on my page etc, and carry it on from there. They are very friendly guys and I think you'll like them:-)
