Everyone is asleep. I was going to listen to the midnight mass at Leeds Cathedral; lost my intention fast though, the songs, beautiful as they are, sound better in my head, where I can turn them louder or off when the need for silence overtakes me. It's like that now, except for me rattling away on these keys.

I know it has been a rubbish year for many, but tonight feels serene and lovely. Time to check Santa's progress on NORAD, then go to bed.

Edited to add Shortly after I wrote this, I went to bed. Neither I nor larians could sleep due to the way all our cats forgot/ignored/defied their species' reputation for stealth, and rustlecrumped around the bedroom like burglars with boiled peas in their shoes. Then a conclave of foxes met on our decking outside. Were they mating? fighting? Trying to work out what to do with the one ring? They carried on vociferously until their meeting was adjourned by a massive thunderstorm right overhead. It was the least silent night I have ever experienced.
